A Big Man With A Tiny Hat

I've been wanting to post this for a while but had to wait until my husband handed over the photos which he'd taken during the Chinese National Holiday when we'd gone down to the beach. He'd always try to give them to me after I'd shut down my computer for the evening. Or even while I had already slid into bed, struggling to keep my eyes open to read just a few more pages of something Carl Hiaasen because I simply must read all his books repeatedly. Currently, it's Strip Tease again. Don't even ask me how many times I've read Stormy Weather. Yes, his books are that good. Just thought you should know.

Anyway, before history repeats itself and I wake with a jolt to discover I've been drooling on my pillow while Jeremy tries not-so-discretely to capture that loveliness on video, please allow me to introduce to you the big man with a tiny hat...
Now before you think I'm some total jerk that makes fun of random large people at the beach (I'm just a regular jerk thankyouverymuch), I'm not making fun of him for being big. I'm making fun of him for wearing such a teeny tiny hat while being his size.

I mean, just LOOK at it. It's so small. It looks like a child's cowboy hat, right? Or perhaps he bought it down in Guangzhou where everything is small. Or...maybe he IS from Guangzhou! We don't know that, but what we do know is this hat is clearly the absolute wrong size for this guy.

Check it out from the side...
That hat is seriously 3 sizes too small for him. Maybe he stole it from a child. The world may never know!

  1. Maybe you can just imagine that he is weaing his little daughters hat...okay, no, wont do, he is just weird. Kinda reminds me that MIL bought last summer a jacket for autumn time in Finland. So she tried this jacket on multiple times, we went through all the trouble for tax refund etc when she left Finland and then when she visited us this spring she told us "The jacket suddenly didnt fit anymore, its too small now"., Yeah right, over night it just gets smaller or what?? Perhaps same thing happened to this poor man...

    1. That's odd for Chinese in-laws because mine are always buying things 10 sizes too large. I'd be shocked if they bought something too small. I'd be even more shocked about that than if they bought something that fit! LOL! Oh and I should mention this prize of a guy here of course began smoking right in front of his child. Ugh.

  2. When you're at the beach, do you ever see the "face-kinis" which Shandong is becoming famous for worldwide? Does your MIL own one? PS: My older son loves the Carl Hiaasen kids books like Hoot and Flush. I keep meaning to check out his grown-up titles.

    1. Hahaha! I haven't seen those in a while because we avoid the swimming beaches like the plague. They are too crowded. When Raelynn was a little over 1 years old, we took her to one of those beaches in August. It was crowded and hot and awful. I remember seeing those but not having a chance to take photos because as soon as we unpacked all our crap, Raelynn flipped out. She did NOT want to be there. At all. So 5 minutes later we packed it up. She hated it. Can't say I blame her with that as her first experience. She's been since at other beaches and enjoyed it.

As for MIL, she seldom goes to the beach. Her thing is growing vegetables out in some dirt pile behind their apartment they have in Laoshan Mountain. My husband says that they say when we move to the states, they will go stay on that property full time. Good. I hope they stay in those mountains. It's as boring as they are. Perfect fit.

And yes, check out Carl Hiaasen now. Stormy Weather is my absolute favorite though I just love them all honestly. I've read Hoot, Flush and Chomp as well. And his non-fiction. But I love his fiction works for adults best of all.
